Keeping control while growing fast

When Transport Michiels’ operations expanded rapidly, their existing systems couldn’t keep up. Manual processes and fragmented data created inefficiencies across the business. By adopting Fluxygen, they regained control over their data, established a reliable transport layer between systems, and set the stage for continued digital growth.

Question?

How do we maintain control over our data while growing?

Client issue

Transport Michiels has experienced rapid growth in recent years. But while the company expanded, its IT systems did not keep pace. Much of the day-to-day work still relied on Excel, and data was scattered across multiple systems. It wasn’t always clear where the ‘master’ data lived - there was no single source of truth. The team needed a modern solution that could tie their systems together and scale with the business, without forcing a complete overhaul of their application landscape.

“We wanted a solution we could manage ourselves - something that would let us keep control of our own data and connections,” says a representative from Transport Michiels. “By coincidence, we came across Kabisa and through them, Fluxygen.”

Our solution

Working with Kabisa, Transport Michiels took part in several workshop-style sessions to explore the possibilities of Fluxygen. With guidance from Kabisa, they set up their first integration flows and learned how to use Altova MapForce within the Fluxygen environment.

From there, the team quickly gained confidence and began managing their own integrations connecting more and more systems, including external partners such as customers and suppliers. “We liked that we could keep everything in-house,” they explain. “Fluxygen opened a lot of doors for us. We maintain the source data ourselves and create our own connections to other applications.”

The result

Fluxygen became the central transport layer between all systems, literally the ‘little bus’ that reliably delivers data to the right destination. Thanks to this setup, Transport Michiels was able to keep its existing application landscape intact while creating a stable, scalable integration architecture.

“There was a time when people believed everything should live inside one big application,” says Filip from Transport Michiels. “I’ve never agreed with that idea. Fluxygen proves that a best-of-breed approach works much better: each application does what it’s best at, and Fluxygen takes care of the connection.”

Without Fluxygen, the company would have needed to build numerous one-to-one custom integrations between applications; complex, costly, and difficult to maintain. Instead, they gained a flexible, reliable, and future-proof platform that supports continuous growth.

Key results:

  • Data consistency: one single source of truth for all business information.
  • Flexibility: easily add new connections with customers and suppliers.
  • Self-sufficiency: full control over integration management and maintenance.
  • Reliability: stable data flows with fast support when needed.
  • Future-readiness: existing systems remain usable without major replacements.

Support from the Fluxygen team and access to the online Academy helped them grow from guided implementation to full self-sufficiency. Today, they continue to explore new integrations and occasionally revisit the Academy for inspiration and deeper learning.

Looking ahead

Transport Michiels plans to continue building on its integration foundation. The team is expanding connections to new applications and exploring additional digitalisation opportunities. “Our environment isn’t the most complex,” they note, “but Fluxygen’s standard protocols and transformation tools fit perfectly. It’s exactly what we need to move forward.”

What Transport Michiels says about Fluxygen

“It’s like sending a package of data on a bus,” the team explains. “The bus delivers it to the right application and if it ever breaks down, we know where to look. It gives us freedom, flexibility, and reliability.”
